StrongerMEMORY is a memory enhancement program run by Goodwin House in Alexandria, VA. The premise of SM is to use simple, daily exercises to stimulate the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain deeply involved in forming and retrieving memory. Preliminary results for SM are extremely encouraging, so QA@H is forming an interest group for our members who wish to participate in this program FREE of charge.
The program provides a series of workbooks that contain simple exercises for individuals to work on for about 30 minutes every day on easy arithmetic problems, reading aloud and writing (journaling long-hand.) Yup, reading, writing and ‘rithmetic!
Participants will meet weekly to share their experience, ideas and resources, and generally support each other. Dora Jean Hanna has enthusiastically volunteered to be the group facilitator. She willkeep the program on track.
If you might be interested – or just have some questions – plan to attend this kick-off meeting. We’ll take a look at the materials, tell people how to sign up, and figure out the best times for the group’s weekly meetings, which can be virtual or in person. Be sure to arrive early so you have time go get your coffe or specialty coffee!
